Cardington Cracker

Well  not as good as previous races in the series for me. I think a combination of me pushing harder on Saturdays XC race than I typically do and also the club Christmas party just left me feeling a bit flat. The route was a little different to the previous races I’ve done. Although the total elevation gain over the distance was about the same (2400ft) , it was made from basically two massive climbs and then a few other shorter but equally steep climbs. These climbs are too steep to run up, which is fine as everyone powerwalks, but it just meant that I never really got going.

Just when I was starting to get warm there would be another long walk. On the summits there was plenty of snow. It was about 1-2 feet on the summit in places and like frozen glass in other places which made descending very erm… Interesting, as the friction burns on my hips show. At one point I was picking my was down a slope and heard a lot of commotion behind, next thing some poor chap goes whooshing past me on his bum. Judging by the noises he was making I don’t think it was intentional :) I finished 54th out just under 200 in 1:37:52. The winner was around 1:12 (apparently 30seconds slower than last year).S o I was fairly happy with that, especially given that I don’t think I had a good run.

Luckily it’s best 3 out of 6 to count for the series so I can afford to drop this one :)
